Ivey Urges Alabama Voters to Head to Polls Tuesday
Governor Kay Ivey encouraged Alabamians to vote May 19, calling participation a civic duty as statewide races fill the ballot
Governor Kay Ivey is encouraging Alabamians to cast their ballots in Tuesday’s Statewide primary election, calling voter participation both a civic duty and a key part of Alabama’s future.
In a message released Friday by the Governor’s office, Ivey urged residents to take part in the May 19 Primary Election, which includes races for constitutional offices, legislative seats and congressional districts.
“As citizens, it is our patriotic duty to vote. In Alabama, we have an important Primary Election this Tuesday, May 19 with several big races on the ballot,” Ivey said.
“Alabama is experiencing historic momentum, and you selecting strong elected leaders will help our state be even more successful in the years ahead. If you don’t vote, you can’t gripe, so head to the polls this Tuesday, May 19.”

Voters will decide races for every Statewide constitutional office, along with seats in the Alabama Legislature and the U.S. Congress. Two proposed constitutional amendments will also appear on the ballot, including one tied to criminal release standards.
Polls across Alabama will be open Tuesday, May 19, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. State law requires voters to present a valid photo ID before casting a ballot.
The Alabama Secretary of State’s Office has also advised voters to verify their registration status and polling locations ahead of Election Day.
The May 19 primary is the first major Statewide election of the 2026 cycle. If no candidate receives a majority of votes in a contested race, runoff elections are scheduled for June 16.
Election information, sample ballots and voter resources are available through the Alabama Secretary of State’s website.
