Jones Joins Karlapalem at Decatur Affordability Rally
Democratic nominees rally in Decatur, focusing on cost of living, education, healthcare, and House District 4's November race
Democratic gubernatorial nominee Doug Jones joined House District 4 candidate Hanu Karlapalem on Saturday for the “Rally for An Alabama We Can Afford” in Decatur, bringing together supporters from Morgan, Limestone, and Madison Counties ahead of the November general election.
The May 30 event, held at High Point Market, centered on issues that organizers said are top concerns for Alabama families, including rising costs, public education, and access to healthcare. According to campaign organizers, supporters from across North Alabama attended the rally to hear from Democratic candidates and community leaders.
Jones, a former U.S. senator who recently secured the Democratic nomination for Governor, attended the event in support of Karlapalem's campaign for House District 4. Jones won the Democratic gubernatorial primary in May and will face Republican nominee Tommy Tuberville in November's general election.
Campaign organizers described Jones' appearance as a sign of growing attention to the House District 4 race, where Karlapalem is challenging Republican incumbent Rep. Parker Moore.
“I am honored and humbled by Doug’s presence and deeply grateful for his trust and his belief that District 4 is ready for a change,” Hanu said.
“Because this campaign is not about me. It is about the family in Morgan County who can’t afford their grocery bill. It is about the teacher in Limestone County buying supplies out of her own pocket. It is about the veteran in Madison County who served this country and still can’t get the healthcare he earned. That is An Alabama We Cannot Afford. And that is exactly why we were there on Saturday.”

Karlapalem, a 26-year resident of Madison, is the founder and CEO of Vinhamz Inc. and a life member of the Limestone County NAACP. He is seeking to unseat Moore in the Nov. 3 general election.
“By birth or by choice — we are ALL Alabama,” Hanu added. “And together, we are building an Alabama we can afford.”
The rally focused on lowering household costs, strengthening public schools, and expanding access to healthcare. Those themes closely align with priorities Jones has emphasized during his gubernatorial campaign. Since entering the race, Jones has repeatedly highlighted affordability, healthcare access, and support for working families as key issues facing the State.
During his remarks, Karlapalem also recognized other Democratic candidates seeking office in 2026 and thanked volunteers, donors, and supporters who have backed his campaign.
He noted that the campaign has relied on contributions from individual supporters rather than special-interest funding.
“Every dollar raised has come from individuals — family, friends, and neighbors,” Karlapalem said, expressing gratitude to his campaign team and supporters for their continued efforts.
The House District 4 race will be decided as part of Alabama's Nov. 3 general election, alongside the closely watched gubernatorial contest between Jones and Tuberville.
