Moore Backs FY27 Veterans, Military Funding Bill
Alabama Rep. Barry Moore supports VA funding bill focused on Veteran care, military housing, and toxic exposure treatment
U.S. Representative Barry Moore (R-AL-01) voted Thursday in favor of the Fiscal Year 2027 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, a wide-ranging funding package aimed at supporting Veterans, active-duty service members , and military families.
The legislation provides $450.3 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs and includes funding for medical care, disability compensation, pensions, mental health services, suicide prevention programs, and treatment tied to toxic exposures such as burn pits and Agent Orange. The bill also directs $19.2 billion toward military construction and family housing projects.
In a statement released after the vote, Moore said the measure fulfills Congress’ duty to those who served in uniform.
“America’s Veterans put their lives on the line to defend our freedoms, and Congress has a responsibility to make sure they receive the care and benefits they earned,” Moore said.
“This bill fully funds Veterans’ healthcare and benefits, strengthens mental health and suicide prevention programs, expands care for Veterans suffering from toxic exposures, and protects the constitutional rights of the men and women who served our country. Those who have served our country should never have to fight the government to receive the support they were promised, and this legislation helps ensure our troops and Veterans receive the care and benefits they deserve."

The bill includes $138.2 billion for Veterans’ medical care and $54.6 billion for the Toxic Exposures Fund. That fund supports Veterans affected by exposure to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other hazardous materials tied to military service.
The legislation also fully funds the VA Community Care program, which allows Veterans to seek specialty care closer to home when services are not readily available through VA facilities. Lawmakers included more than $2 billion for capital improvements to VA medical centers and national cemeteries.
Military family housing and troop readiness were also major pieces of the bill. Funding is directed toward barracks repairs, child development centers, and other military infrastructure upgrades. The measure includes oversight funding for privatized military housing programs intended to improve safety and living conditions for servicemembers and their families.
The package also contains several Republican-backed policy provisions. Among them is language preventing the VA from submitting Veterans’ information to the FBI without due process protections tied to Second Amendment rights. The bill also bars VA funds from being used for abortion services, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, or gender-related procedures. It further prohibits the VA from purchasing resources directly or indirectly from Communist China.
The House approved the appropriations measure by a bipartisan 400-15 vote, making it the first FY2027 spending bill to pass the chamber this year.
