Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen announced Monday that Ohio has become the ninth state to join the Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID), a system designed to identify individuals registered to vote in multiple states.

AVID facilitates the comparison of voter files between participating states, aiming to maintain accurate voter rolls. Alabama has previously entered into similar agreements with its four border states, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi and Georgia, as well as Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Texas. Ohio’s Secretary of State Frank LaRose and Secretary Allen have jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to share voter files within the AVID system framework.

“Maintaining the cleanest and most accurate voter file in the country is a top priority of my Office,” Allen stated. “This MOU provides for the comparison of the Alabama and Ohio voter files to identify individuals registered to vote in both states.”

Upon identifying potentially ineligible voters through these comparisons, the Alabama Secretary of State’s office will initiate the voter removal process in accordance with state and federal laws.

Secretary Allen expressed gratitude to Ohio Secretary of State LaRose and his team for their collaboration on the memorandum of understanding.

“Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and his team have been great partners throughout the process of drafting and executing this MOU,” Allen said. “This MOU will result in a cleaner, more accurate voter file for both Alabamians and Ohioans alike, and that is something we can all be very proud of.”

The partnership between Alabama and Ohio underscores a shared commitment to election integrity and the maintenance of accurate voter registration records.
