R&B Star Bobby V to Headline Free District 4 Safe Summer Series at East Lake Park
Councilor Brian Gunn invites Birmingham families to an afternoon of live music, carnival attractions, food, games and community at East Lake Park
From the office of the Birmingham City Council
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Birmingham’s East Lake Park will comealive Sunday, September 20, as R&B star Bobby Valentino headlines Birmingham City Councilor Brian Gunn’s District 4 Safe Summer Series, a free community celebration featuring live entertainment, a children’s carnival, food trucks, games, community partners and activities for the entire family.
The festivities begin at 2 p.m. with a free community carnival, followed by the concert at 5 p.m., featuring Bobby V along with The Connection Band and Birmingham’s own Dierdre Gaddis.
Best known for R&B favorites including “Slow Down,” “Tell Me, “And “Anonymous,” Bobby V has been a fixture in contemporary R&B for more than two decades. The Birmingham performance gives residents an opportunity to see the acclaimed singer and songwriter live and free in the heart of District4.
“This is exactly what the Safe Summer Series is about, creating spaces where our community can come together, where our children can have fun, where our neighbors can connect, and where we can experience something special right here in District 4,” Councilor Brian Gunn said. “And when you can bring an artist with the star power and catalog of Bobby V to East Lake Park and make that experience free for our residents, that’s a big deal. I want people from District 4 and across Birmingham to bring their lawn chairs, bring their families and come spend the day with us. This is about community, but it’s also about showing people that some of the best things happening in Birmingham are happening right here in District 4.”
Throughout the afternoon, families will be able to enjoy carnival attractions for children, games and activities, food trucks and opportunities to connect with community organizations and partners. The event is designed to offer something for every generation before transitioning into an evening of live music at one of Birmingham’s most recognizable neighborhood parks.
The event is part of Councilor Gunn’s ongoing District 4 Safe Summer Series, which brings programming directly into neighborhoods and creates positive, family-friendly opportunities for residents to gather, build relationships and enjoy their community.
Admission is FREE, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, family and friends. RSVP is encouraged but is not required for admission.
