Republican Attorney General candidate Katherine Robertson reported raising more than $420,000 in the 72 hours following Alabama’s Republican primary, as she attempts to build momentum heading into the June 16 runoff election against Jay Mitchell.

Campaign finance records show Robertson brought in more than $420,000 after leading the May 19 primary field with 40.53% of the vote to Mitchell’s 34.41%. The filing also reported $423,789 cash on hand, compared to Mitchell’s $72,227 with less than three weeks remaining before the runoff. Records also show that, in aggregate, more than half (53.7%) of Robertson’s funds have come from out-of-state donors, as opposed to Mitchell’s out-of-state contributions of 4.3%.

The report included $125,000 in major contributions disclosed last week, along with a $250,000 contribution from Rule of Law Action, an affiliate of the Republican Attorneys General Association. The group endorsed Robertson last year and has continued to support her campaign financially.

“It is rare for the Republican Attorneys General Association to endorse in an open primary, and RAGA endorsed Katherine Robertson early. We are proud to be among her strongest supporters because we recognize she is the only candidate with the frontline experience, tenacity, and consistent conservative principles necessary to do the job on day one,” RAGA Executive Director Adam Piper said.

“Katherine Robertson’s decade of service in the Alabama AG’s Office has built strong relationships throughout the Republican attorneys General community, and RAGA continues to be ALL IN to ensure she is Alabama’s next Attorney General.”

Robertson, who serves as Chief Counsel in the Alabama Attorney General’s Office under Steve Marshall, entered the race as a first-time Statewide candidate. Her campaign has emphasized her experience in the Attorney General’s office and support from law enforcement groups across the State.

The fundraising numbers arrive as Robertson and Mitchell continue a closely watched runoff battle that has become one of Alabama Republicans’ most expensive and competitive Statewide contests. Mitchell, a former Alabama Supreme Court justice, entered the race with stronger Statewide name recognition and significant carryover funds from prior campaigns.

Robertson’s campaign said the latest report reflects growing support from Republican voters following the primary.

“Fundraising is the fuel that allows us to continue sharing Katherine’s message of fighting crime and violence in our cities, streets, and neighborhoods, combatting the liberal Democrats’ woke agenda, and daring to defend the rights of Alabamians,” Robertson campaign manager Annabel Martinson said.

“New supporters are continuing to surge to Katherine’s candidacy daily, and we are confident that our campaign maintains the strongest position heading into the Republican runoff in June.”

The runoff campaign has also been marked by disputes over outside money and political action committee spending. Mitchell and his allies have criticized Robertson’s campaign for accepting contributions tied to national organizations and nonprofit groups, raising allegations involving so-called “dark money” in the race. Robertson’s campaign has denied wrongdoing and argued that Mitchell has benefited from outside support as well.

Thus far, more than $8.5 million has been spent in the Attorney General’s race, predominantly by Robertson and Mitchell.
