Shark Attack Survivor Lulu Gribbin Visits Alabama Senate

Lulu Gribbin, the 16-year-old from Mountain Brook, Alabama, who captured the hearts of many after surviving a shark attack last summer, made an inspiring visit to the Alabama Senate today. Her journey of recovery and resilience has become a symbol of determination, and her visit is a testament to her commitment to raising awareness about shark attacks and supporting the amputee community.

In June 2024, while vacationing in Florida, Lulu was attacked by a bull shark near Rosemary Beach. The attack left her with the devastating loss of her left hand and part of her right leg. Despite the severity of her injuries, Lulu's grit and strength propelled her through an arduous recovery process, and she has since become a powerful advocate for amputee rights.

Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth, who praised her determination, remarked, “Lulu Gribbin is the young lady from Mt. Brook who survived a shark attack last summer. Her grit, determination, and reliance on faith and family are shining examples of our American values. Lulu is a strong, resilient young lady who continues to encourage and inspire us all.”

Lulu's resilience hasn't only been an inspiration; it has sparked legislative efforts to improve beach safety. Following her attack, "Lulu's Law" was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senator Katie Britt and in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Gary Palmer. The bipartisan bill aims to create a system to alert beachgoers of potential shark attacks, improving public safety and awareness.

In addition to her legislative advocacy, Lulu has founded the "Lulu Strong" foundation, which focuses on supporting amputees and promoting advancements in prosthetic technology.
