Stallings Backs Wes Allen for Lt. Governor
Former Alabama coach Gene Stallings endorsed Wes Allen for Lieutenant Governor ahead of the June 16 Republican runoff
Former University of Alabama football coach Gene Stallings announced Wednesday that he is endorsing Wes Allen in Alabama’s Republican runoff election for Lieutenant Governor.
Stallings, who coached the Crimson Tide from 1990 to 1996 and led Alabama to a national championship in 1992, said he has known Allen since Allen played wide receiver under him at Alabama.
“Wes Allen played WR for me at Alabama and I have stayed in touch with him in the decades since. Wes Allen is a fine, Christian, honest man who has proven himself to be a leader who gets results for the people of Alabama. Wes has my full support and I encourage all of my friends in Alabama to get out on June 16 and vote to elect Wes Allen as Lt. Governor,” Stallings said.
Allen said the endorsement carries deep personal meaning because of the impact Stallings had on his life during his time at Alabama.

“There are few people that have made an impact on the lives of as many men as Coach Gene Stallings. He taught me a great deal about discipline, determination and leadership,” Allen said. “The faith he has put in me with this endorsement is incredibly meaningful and humbling.”
Allen currently serves as Alabama Secretary of State and has made election security and conservative governance central themes of his campaign for Lieutenant Governor. Stallings remains one of the most respected figures in Alabama athletics and public life, giving the endorsement added weight among longtime Republican voters and Crimson Tide supporters.
The Republican runoff election is scheduled for June 16.
