State Auditor Andrew Sorrell Announces Bid for Alabama Secretary of State in 2026
“I was DOGE before DOGE was cool.” State Auditor Andrew Sorrell

Alabama State Auditor Andrew Sorrell has officially announced his candidacy for Secretary of State in the 2026 election cycle, pledging to safeguard the integrity of the state’s elections and uphold conservative principles in office.
Sorrell, a Republican, emphasized his commitment to ensuring honest elections and preventing voter fraud. “Alabama needs a committed conservative who will shield our elections from fraud while blocking illegal immigrants and other ineligible individuals from registering to vote,” Sorrell stated. “As Secretary of State, I will ensure that honestly cast votes are counted honestly, and those who attempt to cheat at the ballot box are caught and punished for their actions.”
In addition to election security, Sorrell acknowledged the broad responsibilities of the Secretary of State’s office, which include overseeing business services for companies of all sizes. He promised to manage these duties efficiently and cost-effectively for Alabama taxpayers.
Sorrell was elected as State Auditor in 2022, during which time he has prioritized fiscal responsibility. His tenure has been marked by efforts to reduce costs, including declining the use of a state vehicle, relocating staff, and leaving an administrative assistant position unfilled, generating substantial savings for taxpayers.
Prior to serving as State Auditor, Sorrell represented District 3 in the Alabama House, where he earned a reputation as one of the most conservative legislators in the state. His voting record garnered him the “Conservative Policy Warrior” award from the Alabama Policy Institute in 2020 and a perfect 100 rating on the American Conservative Union’s 2021 scorecard.
“I was DOGE before DOGE was cool,” Sorrell quipped, referencing his staunch commitment to conservative policies. “Throughout my time in the Legislature, I consistently voted for smaller government and lower taxes, which sometimes resulted in a trip to the woodshed from leadership and lobbyists, but I remained true to my deeply conservative beliefs and slept well at night.”
Beyond politics, Sorrell is an entrepreneur, having started his first business at age 16. He currently owns four Alabama-based businesses that employ about 20 people.
A native of Alabama with deep family ties to the ministry, Sorrell met his wife, Hannah, in 2016 during a church history tour in Rome, Italy. The couple has two daughters, Liberty and Glory.
As the 2026 campaign unfolds, Sorrell’s bid for Secretary of State is expected to draw attention from conservative voters who prioritize election security and fiscal responsibility. His track record in both the private and public sectors will likely play a key role in shaping the race.
