The Moore You Know: March 2026

From the office of Congressman Barry Moore (R-AL-01)

Welcome to our March newsletter!
This month, Team Moore was hard at work up in DC and in the district to deliver for the people of Alabama. I supported legislation that serves our farmers and worked to make sure America is once again stronger at home and respected abroad.
If you need help from my office with the VA, IRS, or another federal agency, or with a government service like passport processing, please reach out to us. We’ve resolved over 7,600 cases since I took office in 2021. I promise I will continue to fight for you, your family, and Alabama’s First Congressional District.
Please reach out to my office at barrymoore.house.gov or 202-225-2901 if we can help you or your family in any way and keep reading for the full update.
Sincerely,
Rep. Barry Moore, Member of Congress

Safeguarding U.S. companies from foreign targeting

I voted in support of the Defending American Property Abroad Act of 2026 to Safeguard U.S. companies from unlawful expropriation and other measures that undermine American investments overseas.

What we have seen happen to Alabama's own Vulcan Materials in Mexico is an example of a foreign government targeting an American company, shutting down its operations, and attempting to seize its property with no regard for the rule of law. That should concern every American, because if it can happen to one company, it can happen to any U.S. business operating abroad. The Defending American Property Abroad Act makes clear that the United States will not sit back while our companies are mistreated. It gives us the tools to hold bad actors accountable, to defend American jobs and investments, and to ensure that foreign governments cannot benefit from access to our markets while violating the rights of American businesses.

Taking action to end the chaos caused by Senate Democrats’ shutdown

I voted in support of H.R. 8029, the Pay Our Homeland Defenders Act of 2026, legislation to ensure Department of Homeland Security personnel receive full pay and support following the ongoing shutdown.

The Democrat-driven shutdown has disrupted travel, weakened national security operations, and cost the U.S. economy billions, all while frontline personnel continued their missions without compensation.

House Republicans took action to end the chaos caused by Senate Democrats’ shutdown and make sure the men and women who protect our homeland aren’t left wondering how they’ll provide for their families. While Democrats play political games to appease their radical, open-borders base, our Border Patrol agents, TSA officers, Coast Guardsmen, and Secret Service personnel have been working without pay to keep Americans safe. This bill guarantees our homeland defenders are paid, restores stability to critical security operations, and puts American safety first.

Putting our Constitution and the rule of law first

I introduced the Defeat Sharia Law in America Act, legislation to clarify that discrimination carried out through the implementation of Sharia Law violates the protections guaranteed under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The legislation is led in the Senate by Senators Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and John Cornyn (R-TX).

The Defeat Sharia Law in America Act makes clear that using Sharia law as a basis to discriminate against Americans violates the Civil Rights Act, and it ensures that foreign legal doctrines cannot undermine the freedoms and equal protections guaranteed by our Constitution. Radical ideologies that reject American values pose a real threat to our communities and our young people. Congress has a responsibility to ensure that the Constitution, not any foreign or religious legal code, remains the highest law of the land.

Fighting to ending Washington's reckless spending

I voted in support of H. J. Res. 139, a constitutional amendment proposing to require the federal government to balance its budget and impose stronger fiscal discipline in Washington.

The measure would require that federal spending in a given year not exceed the average annual receipts collected during the previous three years, adjusted for population growth and inflation. The proposal also requires a two-thirds vote of Congress to approve spending above that limit or to enact any new tax or tax increase. The amendment would take effect beginning five years after ratification by three-fourths of the states.

Supporting the 2026 Farm Bill

Alabama’s farmers deserve a modernized Farm Bill that strengthens their safety net, expands market opportunities, and provides the certainty they need to plan for the future.

The Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 delivers meaningful improvements to Price Loss Coverage and Agriculture Risk Coverage programs, expands crop insurance options for specialty crops, and protects key commodities like cotton and peanuts that are vital to our state’s economy. It invests in rural broadband and small-town infrastructure, strengthens disaster assistance for producers facing hurricanes and drought, expands trade opportunities to keep American agriculture competitive, and modernizes the National Agricultural Statistics Service to ensure farmers and policymakers have accurate, timely data to make sound decisions. I’m proud to support this legislation as it moves forward and will continue working to secure a strong, commonsense Farm Bill for Alabama’s producers and rural communities.

Renovation in Dauphin Island

My staff  was honored to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Billy Goat Hole renovation project on Dauphin Island this month. These new boat ramps and docks will allow for vehicles to maneuver safely and efficiently, while reducing the potential for negative impacts on traffic in the area.

Celebrating American Legion

Team Moore enjoyed celebrating the 107th birthday of the American Legion at Battleship Park in Mobile. Thank you to all of our nation's veterans and their families who have answered the call of service.

Exploring the New American Symphony Tour Ship

My staff enjoyed getting to tour the new American Cruise Lines' Symphony in Mobile. This family owned company uses American made ships and will sail between New Orleans and Pensacola with a 12 hour stop in Mobile. Looking forward to the growth and new opportunities this brings to our community.

Community Growth in Action

Team Moore celebrated St. Matthias Anglican Church joining the Dothan Chamber of Commerce. It was great to gather with local chamber members, area business leaders, and church members to honor this new church plant and addition to our community.
