500+ Plates Served at Tomato Sandwich Lunch Wednesday
Montgomery Event drew bipartisan crowd from across Alabama
More than 500 plates of tomato sandwiches and sides were given out at the 23rd Annual Tomato Sandwich Lunch on Wednesday, June 24.
The event was held in the Ed Teague Arena on Federal Drive in Montgomery. Event sponsors later told ALPolitics.com that there was a “steady stream” of people from 11:00 AM, when the event began, to almost 1:00 PM, when it ended.
The Tomato Sandwich Lunch was sponsored by Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate and the Sweet Grown Alabama program. It has become a significant political and social event, especially during election years, and a number of both Democratic and Republican candidates were in attendance.
A Farmer’s Market, featuring Alabama-grown products, was set up outside the area to allow attendees to show their support for local farmers.
