AFRW Launches “Praying for America” Series in Tuscaloosa
Wednesday meeting featured Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, several Republican candidates
The Alabama Federation of Republican Women (AFRW) launched their “Praying for America“ midterm series at the Hotel Capstone in Tuscaloosa on Wednesday evening.
AFRW President Tiffany Noel hosted the event, and allowed attending Republican candidates in the November 3 general election to briefly address the audience.
Candidates in attendance included:
- Caroleene Dobson (Secretary of State)
- Cathi Bradford (State Board of Education, District 6)
- Corey Hill (Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries)
- John Wahl (Lieutenant Governor)
- Ammie Akin (Congressional District 7)
- Susan DuBose (Alabama House District 45)
- Andrew Sorrell (Auditor)
The evening’s featured speaker was Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, who spoke about the Muslim invasion of America and the need for Christian revival.
Sewell is the senior pastor of 180 Church, a nondenominational congregation on Detroit’s west side. Born and raised in Detroit, Sewell has spoken openly about growing up in a troubled home, dealing drugs and leading a gang during his youth. He said his life changed after a “Damascus Road” encounter with Christ on April 18, 1999, while he was a high school senior. Before joining 180 Church, he led the Pontiac campus of Woodside Bible Church and served as director of the Dream Center of Pontiac.
Sewell rose to national fame as a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump. He hosted Trump at his Detroit church in June 2024, addressed the Republican National Convention the next month and took part in several Trump campaign events. Sewell later delivered a fiery benediction at Trump’s second inauguration in January 2025, drawing on the Declaration of Independence and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
The next event in the “Praying for America” series is scheduled for September 14 at 7:00 PM, and will be a Statewide Zoom call.
