Alabama Truckers Name Nov. 3 Election Picks
TRUK PAC backs six Republicans for Statewide office and a bipartisan slate for the Alabama Legislature
TL;DR: The Alabama Trucking Association has released its general election endorsements. Its political arm backs Tommy Tuberville for Governor, five other Statewide Republicans and legislative candidates from both parties.
The Alabama Trucking Association has released its endorsements for the Nov. 3 general election, backing six Republicans for the six Statewide constitutional offices and a bipartisan slate of State lawmakers.
The association’s political arm, TRUK PAC, lays out its choices in a “Trucker Approved” guide, which lists its Statewide picks:
- Governor: Tommy Tuberville.
- Lieutenant Governor: John Wahl.
- Attorney general: Katherine Robertson.
- Secretary of state: Caroleene Dobson.
- State treasurer: Young Boozer.
- Commissioner of agriculture and industries: Corey Hill.
The guide also backs 32 candidates for the Alabama Senate and more than 90 for the Alabama House. Both Senate and House lists include both Republicans and Democrats. (See attached lists, below)
The endorsements put the industry’s support behind candidates seeking offices that shape road funding, taxes, truck parking and workforce rules. The Association also lists lawsuit reform and English language standards for drivers among its concerns.
At stake are issues that extend well beyond just trucking companies. The Association says the industry employs about 132,000 Alabamians, or roughly one in 13 jobs, and moves more than 80% of the State’s essential goods.
The general election guide follows an earlier round of endorsements before the May primary. In its April announcement, the association said its choices reflected support for safer roads, fewer rules that burden carriers, lower taxes and changes to the State’s lawsuit system.
