ALGOP Chair Wahl On President Trump’s UA Commencement Address
Historic visit began with White House reaching out to the University

President Donald J. Trump announced on Truth Social April 21st that he would be giving the Commencement Address “at two really GREAT places, the University of Alabama and, WEST POINT.”
This marks the first time a sitting President has participated in commencement exercises at the University. The President has a strong relationship with Alabama, and carried the State handily in the 2024 election. In 2023, the President shattered attendance and fundraising records at the ALGOP’s Summer Dinner in Montgomery, and his son Don Jr. headlined the “Trump Victory Dinner” in Birmingham earlier this month.
ALGOP Chairman John Wahl spoke with ALPolitics.com Thursday afternoon about the President's upcoming visit.
“The Alabama Republican Party is incredibly excited about welcoming Donald Trump back to the State of Alabama. This is a tremendous opportunity for both the Universoty, but also the people of Alabama. It’s not every day you have a sitting President visit your State, and this continues that trend of Donald Trump making Alabama a priority,” Wahl said.
Wahl went on to share some of the behind-the-scenes work involved in the President's visit.
“This visit originated with Donald Trump, looking at which Universities he wanted to visit. It was a priority for him to reach out to, and communicate directly with, young people. I’m very pleased that he chose the University of Alabama to contact. The Governmental Affairs team with the University and the Trump administration have been working on the event ever since, and they're doing a tremendous job. We’re really looking forward to him coming to talk directly with young people here in Alabama,” Wahl concluded.
Non-transferable tickets to the Commencement will be offered free of charge to graduating students. At press time, sources for tickets for general admission had not yet been released.
