Bishop Endorses Wahl in GOP Runoff for Lieutenant Governor
Former candidate Pat Bishop backs John Wahl, citing shared values and leadership ahead of Alabama's June 16 Republican runoff
Former Republican Lieutenant Governor candidate Pat Bishop has endorsed former Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl in the June 16 Republican runoff election for Lieutenant Governor.
Bishop, who launched his campaign in May 2025, said his campaign focused on faith, family, and service. He said those same principles led him to support Wahl's bid for statewide office.
“John is not afraid to say what he means, and he means what he says. He exhibits the foundations and principles of leadership. Alabama deserves a Lieutenant Governor who answers to her people, not to the establishment, and not to anyone who believes accountability is negotiable,” Bishop said.
Bishop also pointed to several issues he believes Wahl would address if elected.
“John will work to fix issues with our education system, make resources more accessible for our military veterans, business growth, the hypocrisy Alabama Department of Corrections, Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Parole, Alabama Department of Human Resources, protect religious liberty, eliminate waste, recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being,” Bishop said.

“John is a good friend, fighter and leader, and will be a terrific Lieutenant Governor of Alabama.”
The endorsement comes after Bishop suspended his own campaign following the Republican primary. In a longer statement released by the Wahl campaign, Bishop described a friendship that developed during the campaign season and said several personal interactions reinforced his decision.
Bishop recalled first meeting Wahl at a holiday gathering in Montgomery and said the two found common ground on education, faith, and public service. He also noted that Wahl reached out to him after learning that Bishop's son had been involved in a car accident earlier this year.
“On this day, I offer my endorsement and full support of John Wahl for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama,” Bishop wrote. “John, like I said earlier, mirrors my attitudes on several levels.”
Wahl welcomed the endorsement and praised Bishop's record of service.
“I am incredibly grateful to have Pat Bishop’s endorsement,” Wahl said. “Pat has dedicated his life to serving others through the military, law enforcement, his community, and his campaign for Lieutenant Governor. His campaign was built on faith, family, and common sense, and I am honored to have him standing with us as we continue fighting for Alabama’s conservative values.”
Wahl said the runoff election presents voters with an important choice about the State's future.
“This runoff is about the future of our State,” Wahl said. “Alabamians deserve a Lieutenant Governor who will stand strong, never back down, and always fight for the people — not the special interests. I am ready to take that fight to Montgomery.”
Wahl finished first in the Republican primary and has continued to consolidate support from conservative leaders and activists ahead of the runoff election.
The Republican runoff for Lieutenant Governor is scheduled for June 16.
