Brasfield & Gorrie Breaks Ground on $65M Expansion
Birmingham-based construction giant plans to add at least 80 jobs as it expands its Lakeview headquarters with a new four-story building
Brasfield & Gorrie has broken ground on a roughly $65 million expansion of its Birmingham headquarters, continuing a period of rapid growth for one of Alabama's largest homegrown companies.
The project will add a four-story, 88,000-square-foot building to the general contractor's campus in Birmingham's Lakeview District. The company also recently finished an expansion of its headquarters parking deck, adding a fourth level to meet growing demand.

The new building will include added office and conference space, along with rooms designed to support training for Brasfield & Gorrie employees and its industry partners.
The company expects the expansion to create at least 80 full-time jobs with an average salary of $82,000. Earlier plans presented to Birmingham officials put the investment at about $64.5 million and also called for 80 new jobs.
"Birmingham has been home to this company for over 60 years, and that's not something we take lightly,” Brasfield & Gorrie CEO Rob Blalock said. “We're investing in this city's future by expanding our workforce, growing our footprint and putting our resources where our roots are. We want Brasfield & Gorrie to be the place where talented people come to build something real, and we're giving them the space, the tools and the environment to do it."
The latest project comes after years of investment by the company in its Birmingham campus.
In May 2025, Brasfield & Gorrie marked the opening of a separate three-story, 28,500-square-foot headquarters addition. That $18.9 million project was tied to plans for 85 new headquarters jobs over five years. At the time, the company said 64 of those jobs had already been created and that its Birmingham headquarters supported about 1,400 employees.
With the latest project, Brasfield & Gorrie says its investment in its Birmingham headquarters has topped $100 million in recent years.
The expansion also comes as Birmingham has gained national attention as a place for young workers to start their careers.
ADP Research ranked the Birmingham-Hoover metro area as the best large U.S. metro for recent college graduates in 2026. The study examined wages, hiring and cost of living across 53 metro areas using payroll data covering more than 409,000 workers between the ages of 20 and 29. Birmingham rose from fifth place in the prior year's ranking to No. 1.
The Birmingham area's median annual wage for recent graduates rose more than 16 percent to $59,004, while its hiring rate reached 2.8 percent, according to the study.
Brasfield & Gorrie's own growth has helped add to that job market. The company says it has created more than 600 jobs in Alabama during the past five years, including corporate and field positions.
The contractor has also partnered with the City of Birmingham, Jefferson County and the state of Alabama on the headquarters project.
The relationship builds on public support for the firm's earlier expansion. Brasfield & Gorrie has said government partnerships were key to its prior headquarters growth and its decision to keep adding jobs in Birmingham.
Founded in Birmingham in 1964, Brasfield & Gorrie has grown from a local contractor into one of the nation's major privately held construction companies. The firm now has 13 offices in eight states and more than 4,000 employees.
Despite that national reach, its headquarters remains at 3021 Seventh Avenue South in Birmingham's Lakeview District.
The new headquarters building is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2028.
