Republican candidate for State Auditor Derek Chen has launched a new television advertising campaign as he looks to build momentum ahead of Alabama’s May 19 primary.

The campaign announced that the 30-second spot, titled “One of Us,” will begin airing Tuesday, April 21, in targeted markets across the State. The ad buy totals $173,000 per week and will run across both broadcast and streaming platforms.

The advertisement features supporters who describe Chen as a political outsider, while pointing to his focus on protecting taxpayers and lowering costs for Alabama families. It also highlights his support for President Donald Trump and his alignment with Tommy Tuberville.

“This ad is another step in getting our message out across Alabama,” said Chen. “People are tired of do-nothing politicians and want someone who will take the job seriously, look out for taxpayers, and support President Trump and Coach Tuberville’s agenda to bring costs down.”

Chen, an attorney based in Jefferson County, holds a degree from Hope College, a law degree from Cumberland School of Law, and an MBA from the University of Alabama.

Chen officially qualified for the State Auditor race earlier this year, and has focused his campaign on fiscal oversight and government accountability.

Chen is the son of legal immigrants from Taiwan who fled Communist rule. That family history has shaped his views on freedom, limited government, and personal responsibility.

The State Auditor serves as a fiscal watchdog, tasked with examining State finances and reporting on government spending.
