Birmingham, AL — Former congressional candidate Case Dixon says Tuesday night’s Republican losses across Alabama and the country should serve as a serious wake-up call for a party that has increasingly lost touch with the concerns of everyday Americans.
“The Republican Party cannot continue pretending everything isfine while families are struggling to afford groceries, housing, and everyday necessities. Instead of focusing on affordability, we’ve spent months consumed by political distractions, the war in Iran, and an administration that seems more interested in renamingthings than addressing the issues that actually matter to Americans.”
Democrats made significant gains nationwide, taking control of bothchambers of Congress, flipping traditionally Republican Senate seats, and winning governorships in states including Texas and Ohio.
Dixon said the national political climate also had consequences inAlabama, where several strong, principled conservatives lost their seats in the state legislature.
“Unfortunately, some good Republicans were left paying the pricefor the president’s unpopularity and the party’s failures at the federal level,” Dixon said.
“The Republican Party has tied itself far too closely to one individual, and tonight we’re seeing the consequences. Voters are deeply dissatisfied with President Trump’s performance during his second term. He asked voters to treat this election as though he were on the ballot, and they did.”
Dixon, who previously challenged incumbent Congressman Gary Palmer in the Republican primary for Alabama’s Sixth Congressional District, said the party must return to the principles that built it.
“Hopefully, this serves as a wake-up call. I sincerely hope thingsdon’t get worse before they get better. But Republicans need to start taking voters seriously again, or we shouldn’t be surprised when they continue looking elsewhere.”
