Downtown Birmingham Gas Hits $4.35/9 per gallon
Hoover gas holds at $3.99/9 per gallon, while diesel is $6.19/9
On Monday, gasoline was $4.35/9 per gallon at the Chevron station two blocks north of UAB’s Jefferson Tower (the Tower’s spire can be seen in the background, just to the left of the Chevron sign.
This was the debit card price, with the cash or Chevron card price being $4.25/9.
Last Tuesday, this station’s cash price was $4.09/9, as seen by AlPolitics.com staff.
In Hoover, at the Hwy 31 Mobile across from the Galleria, gas was considerably cheaper, at $3.99/9 per gallon. Diesel, however, was $6.19/9 at this station, which is typical of prices in the area.
According to AAA’s latest price data, the national average for regular gasoline on Monday was $4.48 per gallon, up from $3.18 a year ago — a 41% increase. Diesel has climbed to a record $6.51 per gallon, roughly 76% higher than a year ago.
Alabama remains below the national average, but prices have surged here as well. Regular gasoline averaged $4.01 per gallon, compared with $2.79 a year ago. Alabama diesel stood at $6.15, just below the State record of $6.16 set Sept. 20.
