Ford Qualifies for House District 7 Ballot
Independent candidate Trent Ford secures a place on the November ballot, focusing on power costs, taxes, AI policy, and rural growth
Independent candidate Trent Ford has officially qualified for the Nov. 3 general election ballot in Alabama House District 7 after submitting enough valid petition signatures to meet State requirements.
According to Ford's campaign, the Alabama Secretary of State's Office confirmed on May 28 that it had verified sufficient signatures for him to appear on the ballot as an independent candidate. Alabama law requires independent candidates seeking State legislative office to collect signatures from registered voters equal to at least 3% of those who voted for Governor in the district during the last gubernatorial election.
Ford, a software engineer, web developer, and small business owner, announced his campaign in November 2025. He is running with support from the Yellowhammer Party, a political organization that backs independent candidates across Alabama.
In a campaign statement, Ford said he chose to run outside the traditional two-party system because he believes voters are increasingly underserved by partisan politics.

His campaign is centered on several issues affecting working families and rural communities, including energy costs, taxation, artificial intelligence, and the growth of large-scale data centers.
Ford argues that Alabama lawmakers are not adequately preparing for economic and technological changes that could have a significant impact on rural areas.
Among his policy proposals are expanding nuclear and solar energy production to lower utility costs, adopting regulations aimed at protecting workers from the effects of artificial intelligence, and establishing Statewide zoning standards for large data center developments. He also supports tax reforms intended to reduce the burden on working-class residents.
"I'm not just some protest candidate. If I'm elected, I'm ready to hit the ground running," Ford said. "I already have multiple bills prepared to submit right away that would address the key points of my campaign: lower power bills, fair taxes for the working class, job protection from AI, and proper State-wide data center zoning to not crush rural towns."
Ford's campaign says it will focus on voter outreach throughout House District 7 ahead of the November election. The district includes portions of north Alabama and is currently represented by Republican incumbent Ernie Yarbrough.
The campaign is also seeking volunteers and donations as it works to build name recognition among voters.
