Opelika, AL – October 27, 2026 - Lee McInnis, the Democratic candidate in Alabama’s 3rd Congressional District, received the United Mine Workers of America’s (UMWA) endorsement in Alabama’s 3rd Congressional District. This is his fourth endorsement by a major labor union.
The UMWA endorsement is the first national union endorsement McInnis has received. It follows endorsements from the state offices of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), and the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).
For McInnis, these endorsements validate his campaign. “We’ve talked about making our economy work for the people who work since day one,” he said. “Organized labor is the best way to shift the focus of our economy from massive corporations and the ultra-wealthy, to working Americans. The union movement has always been about earning a living wage, safe working conditions and fair treatment for workers. We’re going to Washington to continue that fight.”
These endorsements are personally significant for McInnis. “I come from a working-class, union family. My mother was a member of the CWA for over 40 years, and many members of my family were UMWA members. These endorsements mean a lot to me.”
