TL;DR: Gov. Kay Ivey extended Alabama’s Hurricane Isaias emergency through Oct. 28. Recovery crews remain at work as officials document damage that could help the state qualify for federal aid.

Governor Kay Ivey has extended Alabama’s state of emergency another 14 days as communities recover from Hurricane Isaias.

Ivey signed the order Wednesday, Oct. 14, keeping the emergency in place until 11:59 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Her fourth supplemental proclamation extends the declaration first issued Oct. 7, when the approaching storm threatened Alabama.

The signed order states that continued emergency measures are needed to support recovery in counties where the storm’s effects persist. It also keeps earlier emergency provisions and related orders in force unless they are later changed or withdrawn.

State emergency management officials are deployed in Monroe, Escambia, Conecuh, Coffee and Houston Counties, ABC 33/40 reported. Crews are helping with recovery while officials assess the damage. Those findings could help Alabama qualify for federal aid for residents hit hardest by the storm.

Power outages also remain part of the recovery effort. In her Wednesday update, Ivey said crews were making progress toward restoring service.

“As power restoration continues, I am told it should be fully back on throughout these next few days,” Ivey said.

Ivey thanked emergency officials, first responders, law enforcement officers, utility crews and volunteers working on cleanup. She also credited private businesses and volunteer groups helping storm victims.
