From the Jones campaign

October 13

Birmingham, AL – Doug Jones has a long record of taking questions directly from the people of Alabama. As a U.S. Senator, he held town halls across the state, and he has continued that practice throughout his campaign for governor. Since July 1, Jones has held 17 town halls, with his 18th scheduled for tonight in Montgomery.

Tommy Tuberville has yet to hold a public town hall during his campaign for governor, and there is no publicly documented record of him hosting an in-person public town hall during his six years in the U.S. Senate. Tuberville has also declined to debate Jones, while Jones has continued meeting with voters across the state.

At every Jones town hall, audience members are selected at random by drawing numbers from a hat. Their questions are neither screened nor known in advance. Republicans, Democrats and independents come out and ask about everything from rural healthcare and utility costs to public education and data centers.

“I’m really proud of the fact that since July I have held 17 town halls. I’ve been from the north end of this state to the Gulf Coast, taking whatever question comes out of the hat,” Jones said. “Tommy Tuberville hasn’t held a single town hall. If he’s afraid to answer questions from the people he wants to govern, it’s no wonder he’s afraid to debate me.”

Crowds at Jones' campaign events have continued to grow. Last month, 1,500 people attended the launch of his Rally for Alabama in Mobile. Jones then took his bus tour through rural Alabama, from Florala to Gainesville. Just days ago, more than 2,000 people attended a Huntsville rally with Jones and former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams.

“We’re feeling it everywhere we go. There’s an energy in this state I haven’t felt since the 2017 race,” Jones said. “People want a governor who will show up and listen, and I’m going to give them that.”
