TL;DR: MAX Transit will waive fares on fixed routes, Birmingham Xpress and Paratransit on Nov. 3. On-Demand riders get two free trips with VOTE26, while Paratransit bookings are due by 5 p.m. Nov. 2.

MAX Transit will offer free rides Tuesday, Nov. 3, giving Birmingham-area residents a way to reach the polls without paying a fare.

The Election Day offer covers MAX’s fixed-route buses, Birmingham Xpress bus rapid transit and Paratransit throughout their normal service day, according to ABC 33/40.

No voter registration card or proof of voting is needed to ride for free. The fare waiver applies across those services, so residents can also use them for trips beyond the polls. Regular Paratransit eligibility rules still apply.

MAX On-Demand users can get two free rides per account by entering VOTE26 in the BJCTA MAX Connect app before booking. Riders should check that the discount appears before they confirm a trip and save one free ride for the trip home.

The offer comes with an important proviso: MAX will keep its regular routes, service areas and hours. There will be no special Election Day routes or extended hours.

Riders should confirm their assigned polling place, check their route and plan both legs of the trip. The last departure should be checked closely, since transit hours may differ from voting hours.

Eligible Paratransit riders must reserve both directions through the normal booking process by 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2.

MAX’s Election Day guide includes trip-planning tools, polling-place maps and details on each service. Riders can call 205-521-0101 for help with routes, access needs or reservations.
