Merrill Addresses West Alabama Republican Assembly

The West Alabama Republican Assembly hosted former Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill on Monday evening in Northport at Pastor’s Kitchen Mexican Restaurant.

Merrill served as Alabama’s 53rd Secretary of State from 2015 — 2023 after serving District 62 in the Alabama House from 2010 — 2014.

During the meeting, Merrill discussed the integrity of Alabama’s voter rolls and election processes, as well as particular cases which arose during his tenure as the State’s chief election officer. He noted in particular that during his tenure, Alabama’s elections were rated among the most secure in the nation by the Heritage Foundation and other organizations.

“I'm excited to be in Northport tonight and to talk about the elections that are taking place tomorrow, and also talk about general election administration,” Merrill told ALPolitics.com. “I think people need to be more informed and more aware and alert to the things that are going on in their local communities, in all 67 Counties and the State of Alabama as a whole. The best way to be informed and educated about that process is by paying attention to the different opportunities that you have to learn about election administration and how things are impacted because of Title 17 from the Alabama code.”
