Republican Attorney General candidate Jay Mitchell delivered a sharp message to supporters Tuesday night, framing Alabama’s runoff election as a battle over the State’s future and promising to push back against what he called outside influence in the race.

Speaking to supporters in Birmingham, Mitchell said his campaign would continue to focus on law enforcement, pro-life policies, and protecting what he described as Alabama’s conservative values.

“This race is a fight for the soul of our State,” Mitchell said during his remarks.

Mitchell also drew a contrast between his campaign finances and those of opponent Katherine Robertson, arguing that his campaign is driven largely by Alabama donors while outside groups have played a larger role in supporting Robertson.

According to figures released by the Mitchell campaign, 96 percent of its fundraising has come from inside Alabama, compared to 44 percent for Robertson’s campaign. Mitchell’s team also claimed Robertson has benefited from nearly $2.2 million in dark money spending and at least $285,000 tied to a major abortion-rights donor. The campaign did not identify the donor in its statement.

When asked about the possibility of additional outside spending before the runoff election, Mitchell responded with a direct challenge.

“There are some things outside money can’t buy in Alabama: our faith, our freedom, and our fight. Bring it on!” Mitchell said.

Mitchell pledged to continue backing law enforcement officers, defending Alabama’s pro-life laws, and resisting political efforts he said threaten the state’s way of life.

With four weeks remaining before voters return to the polls, the Mitchell campaign said it plans to expand its statewide grassroots operation and increase voter outreach efforts ahead of the runoff election.

The Alabama Attorney General race has become one of the State’s most closely watched Republican contests this cycle, with both campaigns expected to intensify advertising and fundraising efforts in the final stretch.
