The Blueprint for Brilliance
Why Our Work for Montgomery’s Students Is Just Beginning—Guest Opinion by Pamela Cloud, candidate for Montgomery Public Schools Board, District 5
Guest Opinion by Pamela Cloud
Four years ago, I asked for your trust to represent District 5 on the Montgomery County Board of Education. At that time, we were a district at a crossroads—freshly emerging from state intervention and searching for a clear identity. Today, as I announce my candidacy for re-election, I do so with a record of results that move beyond mere rhetoric. We have moved from a state of recovery to a state of innovation, and the "Blueprint for Brilliance" we have drawn together is finally coming to life.
In my tenure, I have operated under a simple guiding principle: Governance is the foundation of growth. You cannot build a world-class school system on a fractured foundation. That is why I took the lead in authoring the 2025–2026 Board Goals and the current Superintendent Evaluation Instrument. These aren't just administrative documents; they are tools of accountability. By creating clear, measurable metrics for success, we have ensured that our leadership is held to the highest professional standards. For the first time in a generation, our district is not reacting to crises—it is executing a strategy.
One of my proudest achievements has been the transformation of how we think about "career readiness." It is no longer enough to offer a traditional diploma; we must offer a pathway to prosperity. I have been a champion for the Signature Academies model, ensuring that every student in Montgomery has access to specialized training that aligns with the 21st-century workforce. From the expansion of International Baccalaureate (IB) pathways to our new Workforce Development Center, we are proving that Montgomery Public Schools can be the primary engine of economic growth for our city.
However, my heart has always been rooted in the unique needs of District 5. I believe that every corner of our county—from the city center to our rural reaches—deserves a school that reflects its community’s strengths. This belief is the driving force behind the Dunbar-Ramer Agriscience and Forestry Conversion School.
The conversion of Dunbar-Ramer is more than a facility upgrade; it is a promise kept to our rural families. By leaning into the rich agricultural heritage of our region and blending it with modern technology and forestry science, we are creating a premier destination for student learning. This school will not only prepare students for high-wage careers in Alabama’s massive timber and agriculture industries but will also serve as a beacon of community pride and a model for rural education nationwide.

We have also made massive strides in our facilities. Across the district, we are seeing the results of disciplined fiscal oversight. From the $46 million modernization of Capitol Heights to the ongoing transformations at Percy Julian High, we are finally giving our children the dignified, state-of-the-art learning environments they deserve.
But our work is not finished. The "2026 and Beyond" vision is a multi-year journey, and continuity of leadership is vital to its success. We are currently in the middle of critical projects that require a steady hand and an intimate knowledge of our strategic plan. We are refining our policies to meet the challenges of the digital age, ensuring our staff conduct standards are modern and our schools remain safe, focused havens for learning.
I am running for re-election because I believe Montgomery is on the verge of becoming the premier school district in the Southeast. We have moved past the era of "just getting by." We are now in the era of "getting ahead."
I have spent the last four years drafting the goals, building the evaluation tools, and advocating for the projects—like Dunbar-Ramer—that put our students first. I am asking for your vote to continue this work. Let us finish what we started. Let us ensure that every child in District 5, whether they are interested in the arts, the sciences, or the agriscience fields of South Montgomery County, has a clear path to a brilliant future.
The blueprint is ready. The foundation is laid. Now, let’s finish the build.
