Guest Opinion by U.S. Representative Barry Moore (R-AL1)

The Golden Age of America is underway, and House Republicans are working to extend the Trump tax cuts and our economy stronger for all Americans. Under the Trump Administration, we have seen the first drop in consumer prices in three years.

This includes a 2.4% decrease in energy prices and a 6.3% decrease in gas prices. The March jobs report showed that in March, the U.S. added 228,000 jobs. President Trump’s economic agenda is working and it’s plain to see. Here is proof that smaller government, fewer regulations, and less taxation makes American families prosper.

Unfortunately, some Americans are still feeling the repercussions of the Biden Administration's out-of-control spending and record inflation. The Biden Administration hired 87,000 IRS agents to take more money from the wallets of hard-working Americans rather than reforming the broken federal tax code. President Biden and the Democrats want every day to be Tax Day.

On average, Americans must work nearly half the year to have earned enough to pay their taxes. As they were working faithfully to pay into the federal treasury, the Biden Administration's out-of-control spending busted their budgets and saddled us with a crippling $37 trillion debt for years to come. We need to repeal the 16th Amendment and get rid of the IRS permanently. That’s why I co-sponsored Rep. Buddy Carter’s Fair Tax Act to eliminate the IRS and replace all taxes with a flat national sales tax. Congress should make Tax Day a thing of the past and put this hard-earned money back in the wallets of American families.

On Tuesday, April 15th I introduced the Why Does the IRS Need Guns Act. The IRS has consistently been weaponized against American citizens, targeted religious organizations, journalists, gun owners, and everyday Americans. Arming these agents does not make the American public safer. Since 2006, the IRS has wasted more than $35 million taxpayer dollars on firearms, ammunition, and tactical gear. My legislation would disarm these agents, auction off their guns to Federal Firearms License Owners, and sell their ammunition to the public. The only thing IRS agents should be armed with are calculators.

As we approach Easter, I am remembered of John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

As our Savior was about to be sentenced to death, he left his closest friends with these words. I am humbled by the sacrifice that Christ made and how He has called me to trust Him in the process, seeking His wisdom on how to help lead our country forward. To save this nation, we must turn to Him, the author and perfector of our faith.
