Two Mobile County Men Face Child Pornography Charges

Two Mobile County men face a combined 45 felony counts tied to child pornography after their arrests Monday, Oct. 5. 

The Alabama Attorney General’s Office said that a Mobile County grand jury indicted both men in September. Special agents with the office’s Cyber Crime Unit made the arrests.

John Seibert, 65, of Theodore, is charged with 20 counts of possession of obscene material, Class C felonies, and five counts of possession with intent to disseminate obscene material, Class B felonies. His bond was set at $150,000.

Joseph Bates III, 37, of Mobile, is charged with 10 counts of possession of obscene material and 10 counts of possession with intent to disseminate obscene material. His bond was set at $300,000.

Both men were being held in the Mobile County Metro Jail when the release was issued.

According to the release, each Class C felony count carries a possible prison term of one year and a day to 10 years upon conviction. Each Class B felony count carries a possible term of two years and a day to 20 years.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team helped execute search warrants and take both men into custody. Marshall thanked the team for its aid and praised the work of his office’s Cyber Crime Unit.

Assistant Attorney General Leigh Gwathney is prosecuting the cases. Senior Special Agent Colin Bradley is investigating them.

These charges are allegations. Both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
