Montgomery businessman and former State Senator Dick Brewbaker has endorsed Republican congressional candidate Hampton Harris in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District race, giving Harris support from one of Montgomery’s best-known conservative figures.

Brewbaker, who previously served in both the Alabama Senate and House of Representatives, also ran in the 2024 Republican primary for the same congressional seat. In the endorsement, he praised Harris’ character, campaign effort, and conservative record.

“I am proud to wholeheartedly endorse my friend Hampton Harris for the Republican nomination to represent Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives,” Brewbaker wrote.

“Hampton and I competed as candidates in the 2024 Republican primary for this same seat. He ran a hard, honorable campaign and demonstrated the character, conviction, and integrity that Alabama desperately needs in Washington.”

Brewbaker said Harris stood out for remaining in the race when few Republicans were willing to challenge Democratic incumbent Shomari Figures.

“When no one else was willing to step forward and challenge the Democrat incumbent this cycle, Hampton refused to sit back and give the Democrats another free ride,” Brewbaker wrote. “That kind of courage and commitment is exactly what we need in Congress.”

The former Senator also highlighted Harris’ background as a Montgomery businessman, attorney, and healthcare professional. He pointed to Harris’ ties to military families through his wife, Air Force JAG officer Abbigale Harris, and his family’s veteran background.

“Hampton Harris is the conservative fighter Alabama needs in Congress,” Brewbaker wrote. “He will stand strong for limited government, secure borders, pro-life policies, Second Amendment rights, and the values that make our State great.”

Harris responded by thanking Brewbaker for the endorsement and calling him a trusted conservative voice in Alabama politics.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to receive the endorsement of my friend and fellow Montgomery businessman Dick Brewbaker,” Harris said. “Dick has been a strong voice for conservative values and small business in Alabama, and his support means a great deal.”

“Together we will continue fighting for limited government, secure borders, and the principles that make our State great,” he added.

Harris, a Montgomery native who now lives in Lowndesboro, entered the 2026 race earlier this year after previously running for the seat in 2024. He has campaigned on border security, conservative social issues, and support for President Donald Trump’s agenda.

The race for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District has drawn increased attention following recent court rulings and redistricting disputes that reshaped the district ahead of the 2026 election cycle. Harris has remained active in the race through those changes and recently requalified under the revised election schedule announced by Gov. Kay Ivey.
