Harris Reaffirms Pro-Life Stance in AL-2 Race
AL-2 Republican Hampton Harris says he is "pro-life with no exceptions," pledging to defend unborn children if elected to Congress
Republican congressional candidate Hampton Harris is reaffirming his uncompromising pro-life position as he campaigns for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District, saying he supports legal protection for unborn children "with no exceptions."
Harris, a Montgomery attorney, small business owner and candidate in the Aug. 11 Republican special primary, released a statement emphasizing that the protection of unborn life remains one of the central issues of his campaign. Harris is seeking the Republican nomination to challenge first-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures in November.
"I am pro-life with no exceptions," Harris said. "I believe every unborn child is created in the image of God and life deserves the protection of the law from conception until natural death. Every human life has inherent dignity and value, and I will always fight to defend the most vulnerable among us."
Harris said his position is rooted in both his Christian faith and his view that government has a duty to protect innocent human life.
"As your Congressman, I will stand for the sanctity of life, support policies that protect both mothers and their unborn children, and oppose efforts to weaken the rights of the unborn. Every innocent life is worth defending, and I will never compromise on that principle."
Harris' campaign has focused on conservative priorities including constitutional rights, support for families, economic opportunity, and grassroots voter outreach. Since entering the race earlier this year, Harris has argued that Republicans can reclaim the district through extensive door-to-door campaigning, community engagement, and strong voter turnout.
A Montgomery native, Harris was homeschooled before earning degrees from Auburn University at Montgomery and Samford University's Cumberland School of Law. He previously sought the congressional seat before Alabama's district boundaries were changed through federal court litigation and remained in the race after the State returned to the Legislature's 2023 congressional map for the 2026 special election. He currently owns a real estate brokerage and has described himself as a military spouse and advocate for veterans.
Harris is one of several Republicans competing in the Aug. 11 special primary for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District, with the winner advancing to the Nov. 3 general election.
