Politicians make promises, but soundbites don’t put hay in the barn or food on the table.

I’m Corey Hill, and I’m asking for your vote June 16 to be your next Commissioner of Agriculture. The challenges facing agriculture and our rural communities are real. Alabama deserves a Commissioner of Agriculture who understands the issues, has proven relationships with local, state and national leaders and is prepared to make a difference.

Alabama farmers are hard at work planting crops, tending livestock and working to feed the world. As I’ve traveled across Alabama the last year, watching our great state has strengthened my resolve to be the best Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries I possibly can be. My experience and relationships I’ve built have prepared me to lead our state in this important role.

I’ve sometimes heard parents and grandparents who are skeptical about the next generation staying on the farm because of skyrocketing costs, low prices and crippling regulations. But I’m optimistic about the future of agriculture and the important role Alabama can play in that future for our state and all of America.

As a poultry and cattle farmer and the owner of a hometown grocery store, I’ve experienced the disconnect between consumers and farmers. I’ve had the privilege of serving as the mayor of Douglas since 2012, and every day I see the results of a poor ag economy on rural communities.

It takes a real farmer to genuinely understand the challenges farmers face. As your next Commissioner of Agriculture & Industries, I will use my experience to serve Alabama farmers and our entire state. When farmers succeed, it lifts our entire community and Alabama’s economy.

As a fourth-generation Marshall County farmer, I have the common sense to make real change to the state’s Ag industry, and I understand what it takes for Alabama farmers to succeed — profitability. As your next Commissioner, my priority is to put dollars back in farmers’ pockets and reinvest in our rural communities.

I will work with lawmakers to ensure agriculture and forestry programs are fully funded, and I’ll push for tax cuts that actually help farmers.

I’m committed to reinvigorating markets and ensuring fair trade deals for Alabama products here at home and worldwide.

I believe Alabama farmers produce the best-of-the-best. I pledge my support for the continued growth and success of Sweet Grown Alabama to promote fresh products statewide through schools, farmers markets and small businesses.

I plan to revive the rural crime task force to better protect farms and rural communities. I also stand as a champion for protecting private property rights, ensuring farmers and landowners have options that provide the ability to succeed.

As a real farmer, I know what it takes to turn hope into a harvest. Those who understand the importance of agriculture and forestry to our state know this, too. I’m grateful to receive the endorsement of my fellow farmers and small business owners including the Alabama Farmers Federation, Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, Alabama Grocers Association, Petroleum & Convenience Marketers of Alabama and former candidate Sen. Jack Williams.

From the Tennessee Valley to the Gulf, through the Wiregrass to the Black Belt, I’ve developed lifelong relationships that guide me every day to serve Alabama farmers. I’m thankful for our farmers and look forward to serving them for years to come. I’m Corey Hill, and I would appreciate your vote June 16 for Commissioner of Agriculture & Industries.
