Jerry Carl Wins Burchett Endorsement
Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett backs Jerry Carl, adding another high-profile endorsement to Carl's bid for Alabama's 1st District
Former U.S. Representative Jerry Carl has picked up another endorsement in his quest to return to Congress, with U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) throwing his support behind the Republican candidate in Alabama's First Congressional District.
Burchett praised Carl's conservative record in Congress, pointing to his work on the House Appropriations and Armed Services Committees and his support for President Donald Trump's America First agenda. Carl represented Alabama's First District from 2021 until the State's congressional map was redrawn following the 2024 election. Even before the U.S. Supreme Court allowed Alabama's original congressional map to be restored for the 2026 special elections, Carl had launched his campaign to reclaim the seat.
"I'm proud to support my buddy Jerry Carl. I hope he gets back to Congress — we really need him. He's not one of those guys who's out there talking all the time, but when he does say something, it makes good sense. Like the President, I'm for Jerry Carl," Burchett said in a post on social media.
Carl said he was grateful for the endorsement and praised Burchett's work in Congress.
"I am humbled to receive the endorsement of my friend, Representative Tim Burchett," Carl said. "Tim has accomplished a great deal to advance President Trump's agenda in Congress, and I am grateful for his support. His endorsement is not only a vote of confidence in our campaign, but also in the people of Alabama's First Congressional District. Together, I look forward to returning to Congress to fight for our conservative values while delivering real results for the families of South Alabama."
Burchett, who represents Tennessee's Second Congressional District, has built a national profile as a leading conservative voice in the House and currently serves as Chairman of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE). He has also been an outspoken supporter of President Trump and has championed legislation aimed at reducing government waste and strengthening federal oversight.
The endorsement adds to a growing list of high-profile supporters backing Carl's campaign. In recent weeks, President Donald Trump gave Carl his "Complete and Total Endorsement," calling him an "America First Patriot" and praising his record in Congress. Carl has also secured endorsements from U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, House Conservatives Fund, the Alabama Petroleum & Convenience Marketers Association, the Home Builders Association of Alabama, and several other conservative organizations and elected officials.
Republicans will choose their nominee in the “winner take all” special primary for Alabama's First Congressional District on Aug. 11. The winner will advance to the Nov. 3 general election to fill the seat left vacant after Rep. Barry Moore launched his successful campaign for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.
